Application

The Pfänder Tunnel has been in operation with two tubes since its expansion in 2013. A traffic load of 46,000 vehicles per day is expected by 2020. Our customer STB Beck GmbH relies on Schildknecht AG's tried-and-tested radio technology in the shaft access systems, which are used to check the air supply and exhaust shafts in the Pfänder Tunnel and carry out rescues from the tunnel in an emergency.

Challenges

The particular challenge was to implement reliable radio transmission over 320 meters through the travel shaft to the moving cage of the shaft access system. In the event of a rescue, the system must function reliably, for example to transport rescue personnel into the tunnel.

Solution

Once the DATAEAGLE 3000 system had been installed, the elevator system with its special functions such as access control and car hooking and unhooking could be put into operation without a hitch. The tried-and-tested Bluetooth technology ensures an interference-free radio connection despite the jamming transmitters in the vicinity.

Outcome

Following the successful conversion of the control technology by STB Beck GmbH, the shaft access system has been running reliably for several years without any faults or failures. For this reason, DATAEAGLE radio systems will also be used in other systems with shaft depths of up to 700 meters in the future.
