Application

ATP Hydraulik from Switzerland developed and produced the complete hydraulics, electrical control and safety technology for the TOURBILLON ride from abc rides Engineering AG. The first prototype was installed at Carnival Hong Kong.

Challenges

The 24 passengers experience rapid turns in all directions while the gondola moves up to a height of 20 meters. Precise positioning and reliable signal transmission are essential - failures or malfunctions must not happen.

Solution

The system is controlled via a Siemens PLC, while the exact positioning of the cabin is recorded by rotary encoders and transmitted via a DATAEAGLE radio link. The signal transmission of the two inner variable rings, including the gondola, is also wireless in order to avoid unnecessary strain on the secure Ethernet fieldbus link.
