Application
In a large-scale wastewater treatment plant, various measured values are recorded in order to precisely control the cleaning process. Endress+Hauser recommends the use of Schildknecht DATAEAGLE radio modules, which are successfully used to transmit data from decentralized measuring points to the central control system.
Challenges
The challenge was to reliably collect measured values from areas of the plant that were far away from each other. Wiring these external systems would not only have been extremely time-consuming and expensive, but also technically impossible at individual locations - such as a swing bridge next to the pool. In addition, there were no additional inputs available at the central control system.
Solution
Sensors, fittings and transmitters were installed at all relevant measuring points. The DATAEAGLE 3703 radio modules from Schildknecht AG were used for wireless transmission. These work transparently like a cable with PROFIBUS DP at data rates of up to 1.5 Mbit/s. Thanks to the 2.4 GHz Bluetooth technology used with frequency hopping, a free channel is always found, which means that the transmission of measurement data is reliable and interference-free.
Products used
- PROFIBUS radio data transmission system
- DATAEAGLE 3703 radio module
Outcome
The wireless solution enables improved process control through additional measured values and relieves the burden on personnel, as manual measurements are no longer necessary. New measurement parameters can be added without great effort and the entire system is monitored at all times by a signal system. The system has been running absolutely reliably and trouble-free since 2013 - clear proof of the robustness and efficiency of the DATAEAGLE wireless modules.
